Tips On Taking Care of Hair Extensions
How to Take Care of Extensions

Extensions provide length in an instant, but taking care of them does take a bit of work. These tips should make your mane investment go even further.

Washing and Styling

Do not shampoo for 48-72 hours after the extensions are completed.

Never scrub hair. Condition and detangle from mid-strand to the ends – avoid the scalp area.
Use blow-dryers only on the lowest heat. Cool-drying is preferable.
Never use products that contain acetone, alcohol or sulphur.

Maintenance

Brush hair with a wire-looped brush several times a day; starting at the nape and working upward.
Never use a wide-toothed comb or attempt to remove tangles from the ends.
Return to the “extensionist” every two weeks for maintenance, inspection and replacement of lost or loose extensions.

How to Make Extensions Last Longer
Protection

Pull hair into a ponytail or bun to prevent tangling while you sleep.
Pool chemicals and sea water weaken keratin bonds – always wear a swim cap and rinse hair right after swimming.
Some manufacturers approve of hot rollers and irons as long as you avoid using them near the bonds. Check with yours for instructions.
