This type of side bun is low maintenance and can be styled differently depending on the desired result. The bun can be styled to obtain an elegant and classic updo hairstyle appropriate for formal events or it can be styled to obtain a more casual updo hairstyle.
On
short hairstyles the side bun will actually be more of a faux-bun hairstyle, since there isn't much hair to style the bun. It looks gorgeous on sleek straight hair with side swept or straight across bangs, but it can be styled on curly hair too.
The hair needs to be combed and gathered slightly on one side of the head around the nape of the neck.
The gathered hair should be back combed and pinned close to the scalp to form a faux messy bun. Set the hair with extra hold hair spray so the hair styled in a bun will not lose it's messy texture.
For medium and long hairstyles the hair can be combed back and pulled into a side ponytail. Part the ponytail in two and twist the two sections around.
Twist or knot the ponytail close to the scalp and pin it in place using bobby pins.
If you have bangs you can wear them as regular or you can hide them using hair gel by combing them sideways, close to the scalp.
