Why do you want a short cut?
Am I ready for a change, tired of my old look, feeling dated or unable to handle my hair? If you said yes, good. On the other hand, if you’re going short to look like – or copy - a celebrity, to change your life entirely or because your boyfriend prefers short locks – forget about it. Narrow down your reasons so you can get the right short cut for you.
Have you discussed what you don’t like about your current style with your hairstylist?
If your long locks are too hard to manage take too long to dry, your stylist may have other style options, great advice or an idea for a great medium long look for you. Sometimes layers can solve your style issue. But if you really like short hair, that’s a good clue to start thinking about a short snip.
How do you define short?
A head-hugging cap cut a guy could wear, or ear-length?
Once you’re in a salon, make sure your definition of short and your stylist’s are the same!
Do you enjoy change?
Are you a fashionista, or someone who scoffs at how silly trends look?
If you haven’t changed your look in a while, it’s surely time, but going straight to a super-short cut may be wrong for you. Try incremental changes instead. Then, you’ll have time to adjust to each new look.
How short do you think you want to go?
Always have in mind ahead in time. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you got “talked into” something you didn’t want. Try on wigs, pin up your hair and draw your line. When you visit the salon, show your stylist exactly how short you’ll go.
