Am I Using Too Much Hair Product?

Am I Using Too Much Hair Product?
If your shampoo bottle goes down quicker that it should or your hair is usually limp, dull and gets greasy quickly after styling, you're probably using way to much hair care or styling products. Learn how much hair products you should be using for each product!

Shampoo

Use no more than 1-inch dollop of shampoo, distribute through hands and fingers so you get an even coverage and use hot water to get a really good lather.
Awkward-shaped bottles are mostly to blame for the waste, instead opt for bottles with pumps. Add water to the bottle at the end and shake to get the rest out.

Conditioner

The amount of conditioner you use should depend on your hair length and hair type.
A good tip is to use a wide tooth comb to distribute the conditioner evenly throughout the hair. Don't use more than 1-2 teaspoons of conditioner and make sure you get an even coverage.

How much hair product to use at once

Heat protector

Heat protector is vital if you use heated appliances or you blow-dry. Heat protection to hair is like sunscreen to your skin. Divide hair into 3 or 4 sections and use two pumps per section.

Wax

Wax is great to add texture to short hairstyles and to get beachy waves on long hairstyles. It's less the case of amount here, but how you manage the wax.
If your hands are warm, that will make a huge difference to its pliability. Rub hands first so they are warm, or put your blow dryer on your hands to warm them. Or, just opt for a spray wax!

Mousse

Mousse creates volume, enhances definition and counteracts frizz and humidity. However, it must be used sparingly. Don't use more than the size of a golf ball, unless your hair is really thick.

Serum

Serum is great for adding shine to hair, but beware especially if you have fine or blonde hair. Too much serum will make you hair look dull and greasy, as it's silicone-based, your hair can look darker. For most hair types and lengths, use a size of a dime and rub through hands first to get an even distribution.

Hairspray

The trick with hairspray is not to hold the bottle too close – about 8 to 9 inches away is close enough. Circle the hair three times at arm's length for about 10 seconds.
This will create the perfect hold shine and finish.
